Methods: Participants were total 77 nursing students of university of B city. Data were collected from July 5 to July 15, 2011.
Results: Level of competence for cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to general characteristics: Scores for competence showed that there were statistically significant differences for presence of advanced cardiac life support(t=2.19, p=.032), presence of basic life support in emergency situation(t=2.42, p=.018). Correlation between knowledge and competence for cardiopulmonary resuscitation was r=.26(p=.022), attitude and competence was r=.52(p<.001), self-efficacy and competence was r=.56(p<.001). Factors affecting competence in cardiopulmonary resuscitation: the degree of the highest degree of nursing students self-efficacy as a factor that explains 32.2% had competence. Next, level of education and attitude of basic life support was found to explain 56.2% of the total.

Conclusion: Higher levels of attitude and self-efficacy level were related to higher levels of competence for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Therefore, in order to increase the degree of competence, it is necessary to develop the nursing program and its application considering nursing students self efficacy level, attitude of basic life support.
